After you've logged into the
Herdbook, you will want to start a new search. There are
several options for searching the database. These options
may be used one at a time, or in combination.

The Name, Owner's Name, and
Breeder's Name fields allow you to specify if the text you are
searching for starts with, ends with, is contained in or
matches exactly what's in the database. You should not
include the PGCH in the animals name when searching.
The Registration Number,
Sire's Registration Number, and Dam's Registration number boxes
can only be used for exact match searches -- you must enter the
entire registration number.
Example:
To find all animals who were
registered in the "Furry Down" herdname and sired by
PGCH Whirlwind Farms Merlin, you would enter the following
information in the search criteria fields:
Name: |Starts With| Furry
Down
Sire's Registration Number: 2902M
NOTE: The NPGA database
contains thousands of records (nearly 75,000 as of April 2003).
If your search returns more than 1000 records, your search will
be cancelled and you will be asked to specify more specific
criteria.

To see more information on a
particular animal that was returned in your search, click the
underlined Registration Number.

All information that is
stored in the NPGA database is available for you to see.
In addition, you'll see any recorded wins that the animal has
received.
In the menu, you'll also see
options to browse the animal's pedigree, view their progeny,
and display a 4 generation pedigree that you can print off.
At any time, you can click
the Current Search Results link to get back to the list of
animals matching your search criteria. You may also start
a new search.
