It
has
been
awhile
since
I
last
reported
on
the
National
Animal
Identification
System
(NAIS).
This
update
will
attempt
to
catch
the
reader
up
on
what
has
been
taking
place.
On
3/22/06,
an
article
was
disseminated
on
Region8pygmygoats@yahoogroups.com
by
Stacy
Atkinson,
which
was
provided
to
her
by
Bill
Sanda,
Executive
Director
of
the
Weston
A.
Price
Foundation.
This
article
was
written
for
the
Winter
2005/Spring
2006
issue
of
Wise
Traditions
Journal.
The
article
describes
the
development
of
NAIS,
USDA’s
role
in
its
development,
the
USDA’s
intent
to
identify
premises,
animals
and
their
movements,
NAIS’
implementation
schedule,
USDA’s
claim
of
confidentiality
of
any
acquired
information,
and
finally,
a
variety
of
arguments
on
why
NAIS
should
be
opposed.
Since
I
am
a
member
of
the
Region8pygmygoats
group,
I
have
a
copy
of
the
whole
article,
some
9
pages
in
length.
For
further
information
including
a
copy
of
the
article,

worthy
of
note.
“...The
initial
implementation
of

focuses
on
cattle.
The
use
of
AINs
with
other
types
of
identification
devices
(e.g.
implants)
used

will
be
considered
as

for
utilizing
the
AIN.”
